Designing a Multi-Space Summer Experience in One of London’s Most Iconic Courtyards
Somerset House is one of London’s most recognisable neoclassical landmarks, set along the Strand with sweeping views across the Thames.
When Events by Knight were commissioned to produce this corporate summer party, the brief carried added significance.
This was not just another event. It marked a return to live experiences after more than two years, making the atmosphere, energy and delivery more important than ever.

The Opportunity

With exclusive access to multiple areas within Somerset House, the goal was clear:
Create a fluid, multi-zone experience that allowed guests to explore, engage and celebrate at their own pace.
The event spanned:

• Riverside Terrace
• San Miguel Terrace
• Seamen’s Hall

Each space was designed with its own identity while contributing to a cohesive overall experience.

Our Approach

Under the creative direction of Kwame Knight, the focus was on:

• Movement between spaces
• Layered entertainment
• Building energy progressively throughout the evening

Rather than a single focal point, the event was designed as a journey.
Guests would arrive into a vibrant outdoor setting, ease into the experience, and naturally transition into a high-energy late-night party.

The Guest Experience

Arrival and Outdoor Reception
Guests arrived via Waterloo Bridge, stepping directly onto the terrace overlooking the Thames.
From the outset, the tone was set with:

• A welcome drinks reception
• Open-air DJ sets
• A roaming saxophonist adding live energy
• Access to the San Miguel bar

The Riverside Terrace became the social heart of the early evening, combining music, atmosphere and stunning views.
