Walk the Plank

A vertigo-inducing VR challenge on a real physical plank

About the Game

It is just a plank. Six inches off the ground. So why can nobody walk across it? Walk the Plank pairs a VR headset showing a dizzying view from the top of a skyscraper with a real, physical plank guests actually have to step onto — and the brain, utterly convinced it is about to plummet 80 storeys, flatly refuses to cooperate. It is one of the most talked-about attractions we offer, precisely because it plays such convincing tricks on the mind.

The gap between what guests see and what they know to be true is exactly what makes it so brilliant to watch as much as to experience. Even people who intellectually know the plank is safely at floor level will visibly wobble, crouch, freeze or grip an imaginary railing as they try to inch along it — reactions that reliably send the watching crowd into fits of laughter.

That spectator element is a massive part of why it performs so well. The person in the headset becomes genuine entertainment for everyone else in the room, who can see both the guest’s real, exaggerated flailing and, often, a live feed of exactly what they are seeing inside the headset projected on a nearby screen for full comic effect. One brave volunteer keeps an entire crowd entertained.

It also works as a genuine (if light-hearted) personal challenge. Completing the full length of the plank without stepping off becomes a proper little badge of honour, and repeat attempts from guests determined to conquer their nerves are common throughout an event — there is always someone insisting they will nail it next time.

It is a fantastic conversation-starter and ice-breaker, which makes it a natural for corporate parties, team days and product launches. There is something wonderfully levelling about watching the most confident person in the office turn to jelly on a plank they know is perfectly safe — it gets everyone talking, laughing and daring each other to have a go.

It is proof that an attraction does not need to be big to be unforgettable. From a footprint barely larger than the plank itself, it delivers genuine drama, huge laughs and a story every participant will retell for weeks — all while entertaining a whole crowd of onlookers at the same time.

Set-up needs only a small, level footprint for the plank and a modest safety perimeter, plus a power connection for the headset and, where used, the spectator screen. Our team handles all safety briefing, headset fitting and supervision throughout every attempt, so it runs safely and smoothly from start to finish.

For an attraction that combines genuine psychological trickery with brilliant crowd entertainment from a tiny footprint, Walk the Plank remains one of our most consistently requested activations. Pair it with our other VR attractions for a full immersive zone, or run it as a standalone talking point. Get in touch for a tailored quote and see who is actually brave enough to take the step.
